YAHUKIMO, Olemah.com — Two alleged members of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) were buried on Sunday, January 26, 2026, following a deadly clash with Indonesian security forces in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands.
Local youths said the bodies were left at the scene for nearly five days after the shooting, as residents were not given access to retrieve them. According to witnesses, long negotiations were required before permission was finally granted.
“We were not allowed to collect the bodies after the shooting. After days of negotiation, we were informed, but the bodies were already decomposing,” a local youth said.
On the day of the burial, leaders of PGGY, FKUP, and local youths went directly to the site where the bodies were left. Due to the difficult terrain and the condition of the remains, the victims were buried at the same location on Jalan Gunung Material Dua.
One victim was identified as Anggun Kobak, while the second victim could not be identified due to severe decomposition. Community leaders stated that both were active members of TPNPB from the HSSP battalion. Another person involved in the incident is still reportedly missing.
The official identification of the second victim is awaiting confirmation from the leadership of Kodap 16. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
