TPNPB Member Esa Giban Falls in Battle at the Jayawijaya and Yahukimo Border

 

Wamena, Olemah.com — Mr. Esa Giban, a member of the West Papua Army under the National Liberation Army of West Papua – Free Papua Movement (TPNPB–OPM), died in a fierce battle on May 18, 2025, at Kali Jeti, located on the border between Jayawijaya and Yahukimo in the Papua Highlands.

The battle involved an armed clash between TPNPB–OPM forces and Indonesian military (TNI) personnel, where Esa Giban risked his life defending the struggle for West Papua’s independence. His death brought deep sorrow to the West Papua Army family and supporters of the independence movement.

The funeral procession for Esa Giban was held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, as a final tribute to the brave fighter known for his courage and unwavering fighting spirit.

According to a report from Kabargunung.com, during military operations in the Intan Jaya, Dogiyai, and Yahukimo regions, eight members of TPNPB–OPM have fallen in various armed clashes with the Indonesian military. This ongoing struggle serves as proof that the spirit of resistance in Papua remains strong.

The West Papua Army emphasizes that the blood shed by the fighters is not the end of the struggle but rather a flame that ignites the spirit for the next generation to continue the path toward West Papua’s independence.

The soul of Mr. Esa Giban and his comrades will continue to be a symbol of bravery and an inspiration for all Papuan people in their pursuit of a free and independent future.
