YAHUKIMO, OLEMAH.COM - The Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB claims that 10 civilians, reportedly gold panners, were shot by Indonesian military personnel in Samboga Village, Seredala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, on Friday (18/9/2026).
Six of them were reportedly seriously wounded by gunfire in various parts of their bodies and urgently require medical treatment due to their reportedly critical condition, making evacuation considered urgent to prevent their condition from deteriorating further.
The claim was made by the Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB through a press statement dated Monday (21/9/2026), delivered by TPNPB-OPM Spokesperson Sebby Sambom.
In the report, TPNPB stated that the victims were leaving a gold-panning site heading toward Samboga Village when the shooting incident occurred.
The Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB stated that it had received a report from PIS TPNPB Yahukimo regarding the alleged shooting of 10 civilians in Samboga Village on Friday (18/9/2026), around midnight.
The victims were reportedly traveling from the gold-panning site toward Samboga Village before being shot.
According to the report received by PIS TPNPB, the victims were allegedly monitored by Indonesian military personnel using drones while leaving the gold-panning site toward Samboga Village. The personnel were then reportedly positioned along the public road used by the victims before entering the village area.
TPNPB subsequently claimed that all the victims were immediately shot when they entered Samboga Village without any warning shots being fired beforehand.
According to the report, the six male victims who were reportedly wounded by gunfire were named Yonas Aje (22), Pilatus Porpom (25), Daniel Timuka (19), Kani Borpom (20), Yanus Patika (28), and Elli Timuka (28).
TPNPB stated that the six victims suffered gunshot wounds to various parts of their bodies and were in serious condition. The organization also stated that there were four other victims among the total of 10 people reportedly targeted in the shooting, but their identities were not included in the press statement.
The Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB also reported that from 18 to 21 September 2026, the victims had reportedly not been evacuated by churches or humanitarian organizations in Yahukimo. TPNPB stated that the incident location remained under the control of Indonesian military personnel, limiting access to the victims.
Due to these circumstances, the Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB called on President Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto to open access for humanitarian teams to enter the area and evacuate the victims to a hospital for medical treatment.
PIS TPNPB, according to the press statement, also stated that there were many victims who suffered gunshot wounds. However, it said it was unable to obtain photographic or video documentation from the location because the area was still reportedly under the control of Indonesian military personnel.
In the same report, TPNPB stated that the victims had allegedly been shot since 18 September 2026 and had not received evacuation as of 21 September. TPNPB then alleged that there was a possibility that the victims' bodies had been concealed in an attempt to eliminate evidence.
The allegation is a statement made by PIS TPNPB and has not been accompanied by documentation that can be independently examined.
The Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB subsequently reiterated its rejection of the alleged shooting of civilians in Papua. TPNPB also called on the central government to take responsibility for the report and to open access for the evacuation process and examination of the victims' conditions.
TPNPB also stated that there was no armed contact between Indonesian military personnel and TPNPB Kodap XVI Yahukimo forces during the incident. According to the organization, the shooting was carried out unilaterally against civilians whom they identified as gold panners and civilians.

In that report, authorities stated that they had conducted crime-scene processing and examined the victim and witnesses. However, the incident handled by authorities occurred in Dekai District and does not constitute confirmation of the shooting claim in Samboga Village made by TPNPB.
The press statement was signed by TPNPB-OPM Spokesperson Sebby Sambom and several TPNPB-OPM leaders, including Supreme Commander of TPNPB-OPM General Goliath Tabuni, Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Melkisedek Awom, Chief of General Staff Major General Terianus Satto, and General Operations Commander Major General Lekagak Telenggen.
As of the time this report was prepared, the report concerning 10 civilians allegedly shot in Samboga Village still requires field verification, including confirmation of the number of victims, the condition of the six victims reportedly suffering gunshot wounds, the whereabouts of the other four victims, and the evacuation process from the incident location.
