TPNPB Claims Indonesian Military Uses Advanced Technology in West Papua Operations

Jayapura, Olemah.com — The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) has accused the Indonesian military of deploying high-tech weaponry in its operations across West Papua. According to the group, the use of advanced military technology has created an uneven battlefield and caused civilian casualties during ongoing military offensives.

The statement was released by the TPNPB National Command Headquarters through its spokesperson, Sebby Sambom, on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).

“We inform all national and international parties that the armed conflict between TPNPB and the Indonesian military, ongoing since 1963, has escalated in West Papua and resulted in many civilian deaths. Civilians have been forced to flee due to a series of attacks involving drones, helicopters, Super Tucano fighter aircraft from Brazil, and Cassa aircraft from Spain,” the statement read.

TPNPB alleged that the Indonesian Ministry of Defense has been purchasing foreign-made military logistics — including drones and other advanced systems — to conduct air strikes that have also hit civilian settlements in conflict zones across Papua.

Criticism of President Prabowo’s Military Policy

The TPNPB also criticized President Prabowo Subianto’s policy of deploying troops to Papua, describing it as an “illegal military operation” that violates humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law (IHL).

The group claimed that the use of drone strikes and technologically advanced weaponry has occurred without any legal framework or official declaration of Papua as a military operation zone.

“The use of drones and war equipment without regulation has caused civilian casualties. President Prabowo and the Indonesian Parliament have illegally deployed troops to Papua, leading to decades of killings that amount to genocide against the Papuan people,” the TPNPB stated.

Appeal to the United Nations and International Bodies

TPNPB urged the United Nations Security Council, the UN Human Rights Commission, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to immediately visit conflict-affected areas in Papua to assess the humanitarian situation and deliver direct aid to civilians.

The group also condemned what it called “foreign intervention” through the supply of military equipment from Brazil, Spain, Russia, the United States, and Australia, which they claimed has worsened the humanitarian crisis and violated international humanitarian law.

“The conflict between TPNPB and the Indonesian military is non-international in nature, but the use of foreign-supplied weapons by Indonesia constitutes a violation of IHL,” the statement added.

TPNPB Declares Continued Resistance

In closing, TPNPB reaffirmed that all 36 Regional Defense Commands (Kodap) across Papua will continue their armed resistance against Indonesian forces, asserting that their struggle aims to “restore the independence of the Papuan nation.”

As of this publication, there has been no official response from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) or the government regarding the TPNPB’s allegations.
